Brunello di Montalcino
Montalcino is located in the Tuscany region, in central Italy. The Brunello di Montalcino production area is situated in the vicinity of this village, about 40 kilometers from the sea and approximately 100 kilometers from the Apennines.

The climate of Brunello di Montalcino is Mediterranean, mild, and sunny. The vineyard is protected from severe weather conditions by Mount Amiata to the south.

The connection between Brunello and the Montalcino terroir began in the 19th century thanks to Clemente Santi, who chose this grape variety for his wine, which was recognized and awarded at an Italian agricultural competition before gaining recognition in international competitions. The use of the Brunello grape variety then gradually spread, though it remained limited to certain connoisseurs. It was during the second half of the 20th century that it became the emblem of this terroir. Brunello di Montalcino was granted DOC status in 1966, then DOCG in 1980. This appellation is now recognized as one of the most prestigious in Italy. Lovers of this red wine will find that it fully lives up to its reputation when tasting the vintages from the Lisini Estate or the Solaria Estate.

The best Italian Brunello di Montalcino wines available online

Created in the 1870s by Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, Brunello di Montalcino differs from traditional Italian wines. At the time, young red wines were popular and sometimes even sparkling. Ferruccio Biondi-Santi decided to age the wine in oak barrels, followed by bottle aging. The first official vintage dates back to 1888. Made from the Sangiovese Grosso grape variety, Brunello di Montalcino gained popularity after World War II. With its ruby-red color, Brunello di Montalcino can be easily found online. This wine, with its vibrant colors and intense, varied flavors, charms with its power. As it ages, its color may take on a ruby hue. On the palate, this red wine is dry, robust, and warm. Brunello di Montalcino pairs perfectly with red meats as well as game. Additionally, this traditional wine also complements cheeses. Brunello di Montalcino wines are equally suited for both enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
