"A great Tuscan wine in a convenient size!"
"Impressive from the very first whiff, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino stands out with a captivating burst of exotic spices and crushed ash-like stone, giving way to dried black cherries and toasted herbs. This wine combines the energy of the vintage with the dark, balsamic-tinged fruits of Montalcino’s southern slopes, while the lively acidity maintains balance throughout the wine and flinty minerals emerge toward the finish. The finish is long, savory, and structured, but the tannins are rounder than expected, giving an impression of classicism while also leaving an appetite-whetting sensation that entices the taster to return to the glass for more. Easily one of the best wines of the vintage, the 2018 is not to be missed. ” (Vinous 2022) - Delivery in a wooden crate is available for orders of 1 magnum of this wine (depending on the country and selected shipping method)

About the wine:
This large historic estate, located southwest of Montalcino, draws on 140 hectares of vineyards to produce a very well-rounded and satisfying Brunello. A smoky note gives way to hints of leather and tobacco that carry through on the palate. The 2018 is full of flavor, with notes of cherry and baking spices. It appears to be of medium body, but it is well-structured, with a robust texture that contributes positively to the pleasant mouthfeel. It will be even better with another year in the bottle.

About the wine:
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione reveals a deep, flavorful character, with more fruit and concentration than most of its peers. This wine has a dense core, featuring black cherry, blackberry, toasted spices, mahogany-smoked meat, and tilled earth. Despite its robust aromas, this Sangiovese is actually quite refined and polished in texture. The tannins are supple and lean toward approachability. This is an ambitious production run of 200,000 bottles. The estate’s Riserva Vigna Paganelli was not produced in 2018, so the grapes from that vintage were used here instead.

This is a flavorful, complex Brunello with aromas of fresh, tart cherries, plums, bay leaves, rosemary, and olives. Cloves and licorice are also present. It is medium- to full-bodied, with firm, refined tannins. It is elegant and well-balanced, with a long, deliciously savory finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2023.
