Dolcetto d'Alba

The Dolcetto d'Alba Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) is an Italian designation from the Piedmont region, recognized since July 16, 1974. Only red wines harvested within the production area defined by the decree are entitled to the Dolcetto d'Alba DOC. The authorized vineyards are located in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, covering an area of approximately 2,000 hectares. The Dolcetto d'Alba appellation is considered one of the best in Piedmont due to the presence of high-quality producers in the region. The Dolcetto d'Alba vineyards are located on the slopes of the many hills south of Alba, close to the Tanaro River and the Dolcetto di Dogliani vineyard.

Dolcetto d'Alba red wine meets less stringent specifications than Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore, mainly in terms of alcohol content. The vineyard specializes in producing wines from the Dolcetto grape variety. The best Dolcetto d'Alba wines are sweet with just the right amount of tannin to balance them. Producers such as Renatto Ratti and Elio Altare are the shining lights of the appellation.
