The Calderara Sottana 2013 has a different personality from the estate's other vintages. It offers a more balsamic style with wild fennel, rosemary, black fruits, and burnt earth. On the palate, it is the most ethereal and difficult to pin down, as the aromas are constantly evolving. Pretty fruit notes complete the structure. Despite the sublime complexity presented on the nose, the wine is more immediate and direct on the palate. Lively berries are followed by smoky tannins. This vintage should age very well." This vintage seems less complex overall but should age very well.

About wine:

More intense than Santo Spirito, with a more powerful nose. Juicy, smooth, and fruity on the palate with enveloping tannins. It will improve with age. A Burgundian interpretation of Nerello Mascalese.
