Etna
A wine-growing region with a long history,Etna embodies the quintessence of volcanic terroir and a distinctive character of extraordinary richness. Its namesake volcano is the highest in Europe, and the DOC now covers 1,200 hectares spread across the volcano’s slopes.
Etna offers an absolutely fantastic range of climates, terroirs, and geological conditions, creating wines of unique freshness and character.
The native grape varieties grown in Etna Rosso consist mainly of Nero Mascalese and Nero Cappuccio. Meanwhile, in Etna Bianco, the varieties include Carricante (at least 60% of the blend), as well as Catarratto, Trebbiano, and Minnella.
As for the typical aromas of the reds, they generally feature tart red fruits, violets, some smoky or earthy notes, and hints of oak. ForEtna whites, one notes flavors of citrus, white-fleshed fruits, and green fruits with mineral and smoky undertones.
