Domaine Masseto
It was on the coast of Tuscany in Italy, not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea, that vines were planted in 1980, finally tapping into the immense potential of this hillside with its blue clay terroir.
These clumps of earth, known as “massi,” inspired the Frescobaldi family, who have been based there since 2017, to name their estate “Masseto.” The vineyard’s grape varieties consist mainly of Merlot, a variety not typically grown in a Mediterranean climate. The estate’s two wines, Masseto and its second wine Massetino, are highly regarded in Tuscan viticulture for their finesse and the precision of their fruit.
The grapes are harvested by hand. The wine is aged for 12 months in 50% new oak barrels, then blended and returned to barrels for an additional three months before bottling.
