Monts de la Grage
Les Monts de la Grage is a communal designation in the Hérault department that has enjoyed Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status since a decree was issued on January 25, 1982. The Monts de la Grage Vin de Pays wines are made from grapes harvested in the communes of Assignan, Babeau-Bouldoux, Pierrerue, Prades-sur-Vernazobre, Saint-Chinian, and Villespassans.
The terroir of the Monts de la Grage protected geographical indication is based on clay-limestone and schist soils and benefits mainly from the influence of the Mediterranean climate. In the appellation, supplemented by the name of a grape variety, Vin de Pays des Monts de la Grage wines must come exclusively from areas planted with the grape variety in question.
Each Vin de Pays des Monts de la Grage grape variety is vinified separately and the name of the grape variety must appear on each container. Monts de la Grage wine can be produced in three colors, each offering a new discovery, as exemplified by the wines offered by Mas Champart.
