Clos du Causse
Leased until 2014, the Clos du Causse is a 1.5-hectare plot taken over by Guy Vanlancker, a winemaker at Domaine de la Combe Blanche. This Belgian schoolteacher left the Ardennes in 1981 to move to the sunny Languedoc region and work at the La Livinière vineyard. He began as a vineyard laborer, then became a vineyard manager and winemaker for various estates in the region. There, he learned the trade before finally dedicating himself to his own wines in 2000. The 17-hectare property, acquired in 1981, was redesigned and replanted, with part of the AOC-designated area dedicated to Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, and Roussanne, and part of the IGP area planted with grape varieties less common to the region, such as Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, and Viognier.
Le Clos du Causse was taken over in 2014 and, starting in 2015, managed solely by Guy Vanlancker. This small vineyard is located 250 meters above the village of La Livinière, on the foothills of the Montagne Noire, which form the vineyard’s boundary. Facing north, Le Clos du Causse stretches across the expansive terroir of La Livinière, composed of small clay-limestone terraces. Guy Vanlancker released his first vintage in 2015 with this very promising cuvée! A must-try 1Jour1Vin!
