Clos du Causse - Minervois La Livinière 2017
2*Étoiles
Hachette
"The young Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre vines (15 years old) have produced a wine that is more elegant than powerful, with a rich nose of fresh black fruits, candy, and dried herbs. Full-bodied on the attack and lively on the palate, perfectly softened by a long aging in tanks (24 months), it delivers without reserve a very pleasant, luscious fruitiness, ready to enjoy right away.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021). A success with great potential!

About the wine:

About the estate:
Guy Vanlancker, head of Domaine Combe Blanche, seized the opportunity to lease 1.5 hectares of young vines surrounded by the Causse plateau, located in the town of Félines, in the Minervois-la-Livinière region. The estate has been in the process of converting to organic farming since 2018.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on September 26, 2021
From an excellent 2017 vintage, this Minervois is warm, smooth, and deep, with juicy flesh and a tender, voluptuous texture, enveloped by crisp red fruits. Beautiful aging imparts a subtle hint of cocoa-infused vanilla. Silky tannins. A long, peppery finish with notes of licorice, enhanced by lovely spices. With its roundness and finesse, this Minervois from La Combe Blanche—just as powerful but fruitier than La Galine—paired perfectly at 18°C with a roast pork with prunes. A score of 4.1 for this lovely cuvée that honors its terroir and offers one of the most competitive prices on the market.
