“The Syrah—which makes up nearly three-quarters of the blend—along with Grenache, Carignan, and a touch of Mourvèdre, spent three months in tanks and twelve months in barrels. Given this regimen, one might expect a powerful, muscular wine with a dark, intense character, sweeping everything in its path. Not at all. On the contrary, this wine shines in the light—structured, certainly, but elegantly draped in a soft fabric—and it exudes refined balsamic aromas. It then unfurls on the palate with notes of blond tobacco of great finesse, finishing beautifully on a note of warm Arabica coffee.” (Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16,5/20 + Favorite (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2019 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the wine:
A powerful yet refined nose, with deep fruit, subtle oak, and pronounced minerality; on the palate, it is full-bodied and pleasing, with a tight, silky texture, fruit, and a long finish. Classic and well-balanced. We love its elegance and charm.
About the estate:
When Jean-Michel Cazes (Château Lynch-Bages, Les Ormes de Pez, Domaine des Sénéchaux) set his sights on the Minervois, it was neither by chance nor without ambition. Half of the 60-hectare vineyard was replanted and restructured when he acquired it in 2002. The warm terroir where the vines are planted leaves its mark on the wines, which are dense and solidly structured Minervois. Jean-Michel Cazes has handed the reins to his son Jean-Charles, who has evolved the wines into a style all his own—a true blend of classicism and Bordeaux elegance, combined with the aromatic exuberance derived from the grape varieties and the Mediterranean climate.
