This cuvée takes its name from the grape variety used to make it: Grolleau (or Groslot), a lesser-known but historic variety from Anjou that produces wines with low tannins, abundant fruit, and a generous palate. A wine with a fairly deep red color and a nose featuring ripe red fruit notes. Perfect for sharing with friends!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2017 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
Founded in 2008 by Isabelle and Jo Pithon, in partnership with Joseph and Wendy Paillé (who have since moved to Roussillon but have been replaced by Jules and Tania—are you following?), this young winery has made a sensational debut among the Loire Valley’s leading producers. Alongside the 13 hectares of vineyards (including 11 hectares of Chenin), cultivated organically and vinified by Jo Pithon himself, is a thriving wine merchant operation, established with partner winemakers who work primarily using organic methods. Jo Pithon has thus established himself as one of the leading names in white Anjou.

Rated estate (2017 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
After selling their vineyard to Philippe Fournier (at Domaine FL), Jo and Isabelle Pithon founded this wine merchant in 2008 with Joseph Paillé, Isabelle’s son, and his wife Wendy, a South African sommelier. They own 7 hectares of organic vineyards and vinify and age Chenin and Cabernet Franc grapes from various terroirs in the Loire Valley. In this successful Loire blend of the delightful spirit of easy-drinking wines and a few great terroir-driven vintages, the whites are gaining prominence, particularly the exceptional Coteaux des Treilles.
