Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2012 guide) 15/20 (2011 vintage) (Very good)
5-Star Rated Estate (Outstanding Production)
About the estate:
Built in the 15th century in the town of Rochefort-sur-Loire, this 23-hectare estate belongs to Alain Château’s Vignobles Germain et Associés group, as does Château Bellerive. Located in the Coteaux du Layon-Chaume appellation, which has just been designated Chaume 1er Cru, Alain Château enlisted Michel Doucet to craft the wines. After serving many purposes, the château is now a charming guesthouse offering a pleasant retreat in this region where guests can savor fine Coteaux du Layon wines. The Chaume 1er Cru is a true masterpiece, with an intense and very rich body, but also a subtle bitter structure that makes it more complex and balanced.
