Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Philippe Germain—brother of Thierry Germain of the Domaine des Roches Neuves in Saumur-Champigny—also specializes in Chenin, grown on schist terroirs! He cultivates 37 hectares organically (out of a total of 43) in a magnificent setting, with the château overlooking the Saint-Aubin Valley. More delicate pressing, slightly less ripeness at harvest for the whites, and less sulfur during winemaking were the adjustments that have greatly advanced the estate, which became part of the Germain family in 1996. Philippe took the reins in 2004 with the firm intention of elevating it to the highest level. Starting in 2010, a turning point became evident, and the wines gained depth and brilliance. This is a reliable choice, built on care and hard work—well done.

Rated Estate: Award-Winning Wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Run by Philippe and Marie Germain since 2004, Ch. de la Roulerie owes its prestige to the sweet wines it produces in the town of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné. The same meticulous standards are applied to the winemaking process for red wines. The vineyard, which is organically farmed, covers 40 hectares.
