Domaine Grosbois
Domaine Grosbois is run by Nicolas Grosbois, who carries on the work of a long line of winemakers dating back to 1820. The vineyards of this family-owned estate, covering 9 hectares, are located in the hamlet of “Le Pressoir” within the Chinon appellation, in the heart of the Loire Valley between forest and river.
The Cabernet Franc grape variety, known as “Breton,” is grown on either clay-limestone or clay-siliceous soils, with depths ranging from 30 cm to 3.5 m at the base of the hillside, resting on a limestone bedrock known as Millarge or Tuffau-Jaune. These different soils shape the character of Domaine Grosbois’s wines: the gravelly soils at the base of the hillsides yield fruity wines, while the clay-siliceous soils at the top of the hillside produce more structured wines.
