On the heights of the Panzoult hillsides, 12 plots of Cabernet Franc make up this flagship cuvée of the estate. A digestible, balanced, and flavorful Chinon, exuding black fruit. Worked in concrete vats, the expression of the fruit is central, with a supple, indulgent, and generous palate. An absolute must!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About wine:
Juicy, slender tannins with a delicious fruitiness that is fresher than in the 2018 vintage on the finish.
About the estate:
In 2018 and 2019, Nicolas Grosbois' wines were ranked among the best in their appellation; this talented Loire winemaker skillfully cultivates his 9 hectares of Chinon vineyards using biodynamic methods. Those who dislike oaky wines will be delighted by this estate, especially as the vintages come from the yellow sands of Panzoult, which give them more natural suppleness than clay-limestone soils. The Gabarre cuvée takes its name from the boats that sailed on the river. It has expressive, appealing tannins while retaining a peppery finish. The Clos-du-Noyer has graphite accents that blend with black fruits, with an intense, well-balanced sap. With prices that are still reasonable and accessible, this is a blessed address that comes highly recommended.

About the estate:
A former 15th-century fortified farmhouse located on the heights of the Chinon hillside. The Grosbois family has been growing vines here since 1850; a long tradition continued since 2008 by Nicolas, who explored the world of wine in France and abroad (Chile, Oregon, Australia, etc.) before taking over this 15-hectare vineyard.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
The gentle, uniform slopes of the commune of Panzoult are mainly composed of millarge, yellow quartz sand on which Cabernet Franc produces less tannic Chinons than on clay-limestone. "This sunny terroir needs to be dramatized," explains Nicolas Grosbois, who arrived at the family estate in 2008 after ten years as a "flying winemaker." From New Zealand and Chile, this thirty-something returned with an aversion to wood. He vinifies and ages his reds exclusively in vats. His Clos du Noyer cuvée prioritizes the full expression of flavorful grapes, while focusing on finesse. The new creation born on limestone, Montet, is one of Chinon's great reds. Nicolas Grosbois is also managing partner at the Hauts Baigneux estate (Azay-le-Rideau).

Everything I dislike about the Loire: a generic Cabernet Franc with no character and a very unpleasant sharp acidity. Best forgotten!
