“A lovely Muscadet that’s surprisingly refined—we’re won over by its rich flavor and affordable price”

"With its crisp floral notes, lively fruit, and intensity, this lovely Sèvre-et-Maine—aged for a long time and now at its peak—reveals superb finesse. We’re captivated by its freshness, its round and rich texture, its balance, and its lingering finish of ripe fruit, candied lemon, and pineapple. It does the appellation proud and deserves a dish to match, such as lobster, spider crab in jelly, or oven-baked John Dory.” (Le Guide Hachette 2025).

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

With its crisp floral notes, vibrant fruit, and intensity, this lovely Sèvre-et-Maine—aged for a long time and now perfectly ripe—reveals superb finesse. We’re captivated by its freshness, its round and rich texture, its balance, and its lingering finish featuring ripe fruit, candied lemon, and pineapple. It does the appellation proud and deserves a dish to match, such as lobster, spider crab in jelly, or oven-baked John Dory.

About the estate:

Located not far from the Maine River, on the granite hillsides of Saint-Lumine-de-Clisson, this 32-hectare family estate was long run by Bruno Cormerais, who passed the torch to his son Maxime in 2009. To give their wines their “signature style,” these winemakers often harvest later than their peers. Maxime Cormerais achieves a magnificent double in the 40th edition of the 2025 Hachette Wine Guide: two “Coups de Coeur” that highlight the beautiful terroir of Clisson, one of the ten communal crus of Muscadet. It is also an opportunity to take a closer look at this region which, far from being merely a source of “light, everyday wine,” offers wines of great depth that are increasingly prized by wine lovers in France and beyond.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

In the Clisson region, Maxime Cormerais benefits from a legacy of old vines ranging from 30 to 70 years old, which allows him to produce classic Muscadets, imbuing them with the refined austerity of granite. These wines offer excellent value for money. Chambaudière and Vieilles Vignes are aged for about fourteen months in tanks, while Prestige is partially aged in barrels. We applaud the extended aging of the Maxime (four years) and Calie (seven years) cuvées, which produce deep, mature whites.

I really like the wines from this estate, which I had visited. The wines have good structure and length, thanks to a noticeable but not sharp acidity. Beautiful length. It’s a benchmark in this AOP.

In a fresh, crisp vintage, this is a fine success, showcasing the liveliness and intensity of citrus notes, enhanced by well-balanced acidity and a sustained minerality. It pairs harmoniously with roasted turbot steaks served with sauce vierge. Equally delightful: crispy shrimp spring rolls with nuoc mam sauce. Rating = 4.
