Great Winemakers of the Loire

“A magnificent Muscadet that combines power and minerality”

“This superb expression of the Clisson terroir, aged for a full 51 months, captivates with its complexity and intensity, featuring aromas of white fruit and subtle toasty notes, leading to a long, very fresh finish highlighted by a hint of bitterness. A wine characterized by its tension and minerality, it also offers great depth and richness on the palate—best enjoyed with a meal.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

Wine rated (2026 guide) 3*Top Pick (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

This superb expression of the Clisson terroir, aged for a full 51 months, captivates with its complexity and intensity, featuring aromas of white fruit and subtle toasty notes, leading to a long, crisp finish highlighted by a hint of bitterness. A wine characterized by its tension and minerality, it also offers great depth and richness on the palate—best enjoyed with a meal.

About the estate:

Located not far from the Maine River, on the granite hillsides of Saint-Lumine-de-Clisson, this 32-hectare family estate was long run by Bruno Cormerais, who passed the torch to his son Maxime in 2009. To give their wines their “signature style,” these winemakers often harvest later than their peers. Maxime Cormerais achieves a magnificent double in the 40th edition of the 2025 Hachette Wine Guide: two “Coups de Coeur” that highlight the beautiful terroir of Clisson, one of the ten communal crus of Muscadet. It is also an opportunity to take a closer look at this region which, far from being merely a source of “light, everyday wine,” offers wines of great depth that are increasingly prized by wine lovers in France and beyond.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 92/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

In 2019, Clisson perfectly embodies the vintage: an intense wine with a smooth, rounded body enhanced by a subtle hint of bitterness on the finish. It shows great promise for aging.

About the estate:

In the Clisson region, Maxime Cormerais benefits from a legacy of old vines ranging from 30 to 70 years old, which allows him to produce classic Muscadets, imbuing them with the refined austerity of granite. These wines offer excellent value for money. Chambaudière and Vieilles Vignes are aged for about fourteen months in tanks, while Prestige is partially aged in barrels. We applaud the extended aging of the Maxime (four years) and Calie (seven years) cuvées, which produce deep, mature whites.
