Saumur Puy Notre Dame

Saumur Puy Notre Dame is a small appellation comprising just about twenty producers across 1,500 hectares in 17 municipalities. Saumur Notre Dame is an old wine-growing village in the Saumur region; it was once a vacation destination for Eleanor of Aquitaine. Rich in history, it boasts architectural treasures as well as vast cellars for aging red wines. The Saumur Puy Notre Dame appellation produces exclusively red wines made from Cabernet Franc (at least 85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on Turonian (tuffeau), Jurassic, and Eocene limestone soils.
