Ica Valley
Ica is Peru's main wine-growing region, with exceptional terroir potential. This is because in prehistoric times, during the great thaw, huge, devastating mudslides slid down the Andes mountain range—all the way to the Pacific Ocean—forming the valleys we see today. This shaped the valley's subsoil, with stony and sandy foundations. The result is superb alluvial soils.

In addition to reds and whites, the range of wines from the Ica Valley is very varied, from fairly sweet whites to semi-dry rosés, including cooked wines and sparkling wines.  For reds, Mediterranean grape varieties such as Mourvèdre and Carignan find beautiful expression in this terroir alongside the more classic Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, with powerful tannins and beautiful aromatic complexity. As for whites, Sémillon, Chardonnay, Chenin, and Sauvignon are among the most prized for their very fruity aromas and their good resistance to sometimes very strong winds.
