Ica Valley
Ica is Peru’s leading wine-growing region, with exceptional terroir potential. This is because, in prehistoric times, during the great thaw, massive, devastating mudslides cascaded down the Andes—all the way to the Pacific Ocean—carving out the valleys we see today. This shaped the valley’s subsoil, creating stony and sandy foundations. The result is superb alluvial soil.

In addition to reds and whites, the range of wines from the Ica Valley is very diverse, ranging from fairly sweet whites to semi-dry rosés, as well as fortified and sparkling wines.  For reds, Mediterranean grape varieties such as Mourvèdre and Carignan find excellent expression in this terroir alongside the more classic Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, with powerful tannins and beautiful aromatic complexity. As for whites, Sémillon, Chardonnay, Chenin, and Sauvignon are among the most prized for their very fruity aromas and their ability to withstand sometimes very strong winds.
