Hacienda Bodega Tacama
The Tacama vineyard, located in the Ica oasis, covers more than 250 hectares, a three-hour drive south of Lima. Situated on alluvial soil dating back to prehistoric times, the Tacama estate benefits from a stony, sandy subsoil similar to that found in some of France's finest vineyards, which influences the quality of the vines and their fruit.
In addition to dry reds and whites, the Tacama estate offers a varied range, from fairly sweet whites to semi-dry rosés, including cooked wines and Italian-style sparkling wines, not to mention Pisco, the country's famous spirit.
Established in the 16th century, Tacama is the oldest estate in the country and also the most renowned for Ica wines. It is as beautiful as it is surprising, with its ranch and Spanish hacienda feel.
In terms of climate, Tacama benefits from the cold of the Andes, which brings beautiful starry nights, and the heat provided by the desert and the mist from the Pacific Ocean (about 30 miles away), producing a temperature range worthy of the world's great wine regions.
For reds, grape varieties such as Malbec and Tannat find beautiful expression in this terroir alongside the more classic Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with powerful tannins and a beautiful aromatic complexity on the palate.
As for whites, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Sauvignon are among the most prized for their very fruity aromas and good resistance to sometimes very high temperatures.
The richness of the grape varieties, the combination of ancestral and modern expertise, and the undeniable potential of the terroirs mean that this region is playing in the big leagues.
