Domaine La Courtade

Domaine La Courtade is a jewel of Provence, situated in the heart of a unique and exceptional setting: the island of Porquerolles, 1,250 hectares of breathtaking natural beauty located 15 kilometers off the mainland, across from Hyères. Founded in 1983 under the leadership of Henri Vidal, the estate was taken over by Edouard Carmignac in 2014. 

A true lover of wine and art, he then embarked on a vast program to revitalize the estate and the vineyard. The vineyard was restructured with 8 hectares of vines replanted, and the cultivation of the vines—already Organic now conducted according to biodynamic principles. A true hub of life and community, Domaine La Courtade now features a contemporary art museum supported by the Carmignac Foundation.

La Courtade consists of a 35-hectare vineyard where the vines are meticulously cared for, with a focus on quintessential Provençal grape varieties, notably Mourvèdre and Rolle... The island setting provides the Domaine La Courtade vineyard with conditions particularly favorable for crafting wines of unique character, beautifully representing the delightful aromatic richness of Provence.

The vines thrive on schist soils and benefit from some of the highest levels of sunshine in France, as well as the sea’s temperature-regulating effect, which protects them from excessive drought. The Mistral and the east wind also bring their benefits, particularly during the grape ripening period. Organically farmed since 1997, Domaine La Courtade can take pride in owning some of the island’s finest plots, which are patiently tended to yield treasures bursting with freshness and soaked in the Provençal sun.
