Bettane & Desseauve

“The 14-month aging in barrels is evident in its woody, buttery, and pastry-like notes. Juicy on the finish, it is generous and rich but remains fairly mainstream. A wine that everyone will agree on.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide) With Mourvèdre as the dominant variety, this distinguished red has a bright future ahead of it!

Wine rated 14.5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, but where we are unable to give an overall opinion on the style of the entire range)

About wine:

The 14-month aging in barrels is evident in its woody, buttery, and pastry-like notes. Juicy on the finish, it is generous and rich but remains fairly mainstream. A wine that everyone will enjoy.

About the estate:

La Courtade, one of three estates on the magnificent island of Porquerolles, was purchased in 2014 by Édouard Carmignac, manager of the eponymous investment fund and avid art collector. Since then, the reception area has undergone major renovation work. The Carmignac Foundation has taken up residence there to exhibit the owner's highly eclectic and sophisticated collection. Renovating the old cellar has not been on the agenda until now, but this looks set to change in the near future. Although the wines now feature new, highly creative labels, the overall impression leaves us thirsty for more. This is a disappointing development given the magnificent character of the wines before the estate was taken over. Let's hope that very soon the wine will receive the same attention that Mr. Carmignac pays to his art. The terroir deserves it.
