Château Saint-Maur
A true gem of Provence, nestled at the foot of the village of Grimaud, in the commune of Cogolin, Château Saint-Maur Cru Classé covers 60 hectares of vineyards in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Acquired in 2012 by Roger Zannier, famous in the children's clothing industry (creator of the Z, Tartine & Chocolat brands, etc.), he has transformed the Saint-Maur vineyard (named after the patron saint of Cogolin) through a comprehensive modernization program. A new-generation, high-performance winery was built from scratch to achieve the level of excellence desired by Marc Monrose, managing director, and Patrick Galliano, operations manager.
Built on three levels, inspired by Zannier's other estate in Portugal, Quinta do Pessegeiro, this type of facility preserves the integrity of the grapes and then the juice, which flows naturally from one level to the next to finish fermentation 10 meters underground in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The grapes are harvested at night, as the summer climate is very hot, allowing the fruit and freshness of the grapes to be preserved once they have reached the right maturity.
Château Saint-Maur produces mainly rosé wines, with a range of three Cru Classé rosés: Saint M, the estate's signature cuvée Excellence rosé, and the exclusive Capelune cuvée, from a 12-hectare vineyard located in the upper reaches of the appellation at 449 meters. The grape varieties grown are Syrah, Grenache, Tibouren, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rolle, Clairette, and Ugni blanc.
The estate will soon welcome guests to its renovated former wine cellar, which will be converted into a hotel.
