Rated estate (2020 guide): 5*Stars (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the estate:

Since 1909, Beaucastel has been owned by the Perrin family. Today, it is run by Jean-Pierre and François, the sons of Jacques Perrin, along with Cécile, Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Charles, Mathieu, and César—the fifth generation. In other words: a family business! Situated on 100 hectares of rounded pebbles, including 30 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône (Coudoulet de Beaucastel), Château Beaucastel produces four wines. Among the whites are a classic blend dominated by Roussanne and the famous Roussanne-Vieilles-Vignes cuvée. For the reds, Mourvèdre plays a major role, accounting for nearly a third of the vineyards—as much as Grenache. This unusual proportion proved strategic in 2018 and helped achieve the finesse and freshness characteristic of Beaucastel. This is undoubtedly one of the finest wine estates in France, and, in our opinion, it has shown even greater purity in recent years.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

With a fresh, fragrant bouquet of spices, white flowers, pear, peach, and angelica, the 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc offers a medium-bodied to full-bodied palate that is dense and juicy, framed by a gastronomic bitterness, and finishes with a long, briny, and lively aftertaste. More taut than in the past, it is a white wine of striking purity.

Rated Estate (2021 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

With its unique terroir of rounded pebbles, Château de Beaucastel is one of the icons of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This estate can pride itself on being one of the few to use all thirteen authorized grape varieties in the production of its red wine. A wine that consistently maintains a very high standard, though it faces competition from cuvées that have shaken up the appellation’s hierarchy. Certainly, the extremely rare and remarkable “Hommage à Jacques Perrin” cuvée—composed largely of Mourvèdre and produced only in exceptional vintages—remains a benchmark, as does the sumptuous “Roussanne Vieilles Vignes” white, which reveals its full potential with age. Under the Perrin family’s effective leadership, Château de Beaucastel remains a benchmark for wines from southern France—a status it must now share with other estates that have reached, or even surpassed, its level.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100 (Exceptional wine)

About the wine:

There is so much to enjoy. Opulent in style, this wine is enlivened by salty, mineral, and savory notes of green herbs, ginger, and stone. Smooth and silky, it reveals notes of pear and aloe, intertwined with chamomile, straw, and honeysuckle. The finish—salty, smoky, and perfectly balanced—is bathed in briny notes. A wine that’s in top form.

About the wine:

On the nose, aromas of toasted almonds and nuts. The palate is crisp and fresh, revealing notes of toasted nuts, lovely body, and beautiful fruit intensity, with hints of custard. What intensity! Truly magnificent, combining richness with a touch of salinity on the finish. An excellent white Beaucastel.

About the wine:

A fresh, balanced, and velvety white wine with aromas of lemon, white peach, warm herbs, and sweet spices on the nose. It has a medium- to full-bodied profile, with a creamy texture and a flavorful palate. Notes of baked lemon blend with hints of verbena and spices. It offers plenty of body, with a delicious, velvety texture that lingers into a finish with notes of peach.

About the wine:

Made primarily from Roussanne with a small proportion of White Grenache, Clairette, and Bourboulenc, the 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc reveals lively aromas of white peach, honeyed melon, flowers, spices, and crushed stone. Medium- to full-bodied, it offers a fresh and precise palate, remarkable purity, well-integrated acidity, and a lovely finish. This little gem will age beautifully over the next 30 years if stored properly.
