James Suckling
"Harmonious and seductive, this wine is a sure bet!"
"A classic Châteauneuf, solid, well-made and technically precise. It's complete, with ample ripe tannins, a firm, dense base of concentrated black fruits leading to a long finish. The wine is introspective and young, and will need time to harmonize. But it has the freshness, balance and power needed for long ageing. A good value wine". (Decanter 2023)

Domaine de la Janasse
Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
On the finest terroirs in Courthézon, the Domaine de la Janasse, the pride of the Sabon family, has established itself as one of the appellation's benchmarks for over 40 years. Christophe Sabon produces Côtes-du-Rhône wines of the highest level, with rare depth. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are expressed through different cuvées: chaupin, from a cold terroir with a very Burgundian approach, or the cuvée vieilles-vignes, sunnier and racier. Finally, the whites, in the shadow of the reds, are just as recommendable. The entire range is beyond reproach, and the great vintages are among the appellation's benchmarks.

Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2024) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
A regular in the Guide, often featured prominently for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône and IGP wines. Christophe Sabon and his sister Isabelle, children of Aimé Sabon, who founded the estate in 1973, manage a 90-hectare vineyard scattered over many parcels. The estate was completed in 2015 with the purchase of Clos Saint-Antonin and its 15 ha of vines in the Jonquières commune.

Rated wine (guide 2025 ) 93/100
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
The nose is still a little blocked, with a good level of maturity and a very classic aromatic register. The palate has good volume, but is still a little rigid, firmly planted in its tannins. We have no worries about its positive evolution.
About the domain :
This great estate, which has belonged to the Sabon family for generations, is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's elite. Most of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vines are located in the commune of Courthézon, with the parcels and soils of the various cuvées being fragmented. The domaine also produces some splendid Côtes-du-Rhône cuvées (important in terms of volume), from vines adjacent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. With often very high maturities, the wines are opulent in style, sometimes a little too warm in sunny vintages. On the other hand, the tannins and textures are always of great finesse. In recent vintages, the wines have become less rich and slightly more digestible.

About the wine:
Very rich nose of black fruit, garrigue and liquorice. Dense and chewy on the palate, with plenty of firm tannins. Fleshy and rich, with a sapid note beneath the sweet black fruits. Young and raw, but with a long finish and good fruit concentration. Needs time.

About the wine:
Orange blossom, raspberry, strawberry, licorice and thyme introduce the delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022. Inviting and bright, the full-bodied 2022 retains its freshness and finishes juicy and polished - a crowd-pleaser.

About the wine:
Full-bodied nose of red plums and candied oranges with hints of cinnamon and allspice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with plenty of powdery tannins that develop gently to a long, moderately firm finish. A blend of 70% Grenache and 15% Syrah and Mourvèdre. For drinking or cellaring.

About the wine:
A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and various other grape varieties, Châteauneuf Du Pape 2022 has a deeper ruby color and an incredible perfume of red and black fruits, flowery incense, Provençal garrigue and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with great elegance and ripe tannins, it is very much in the pure, elegant, seamless style of the vintage and has much to offer. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.
