"Fresh and zesty, Chateauneuf du Pape Montplaisir Blanc 2016 is a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Bourboulenc that is not aged in wood. It is medium-bodied to full-bodied, fleshy and round on the palate, with a lemony, refreshing finish and a pleasant touch of bitterness. (Wine Advocate 2017 - Robert Parker) An exceptional white wine in limited quantities!

Wine rated (2019 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The location of the vineyards is exceptional, on the sands of Pignan and Rayas, with Côtes-du-Rhône bordering this highly prestigious area of Châteauneuf. Excellent viticulture and precise winemaking in a rented vat room in the heart of the village. It remains for this young and talented winemaker to confirm his talent in future vintages. The 2016 white is superb in its finesse and precision. As for the 2015 reds, they are a success. The Memora cuvée, with its infused style, exudes great purity. Meanwhile, the Montplaisir cuvée displays a superior ambition that places it among the bottles to remember in 2015. A domaine to watch closely.

About the estate:

Paul Masquin acquired vineyards in Courthézon in 1936, which he leased out. In 1998, his grandson Julien took over the estate, taking the grapes to the local cooperative, which he left in 2009 to produce his own wines. The vineyard now covers 22 hectares.

A rather surprising wine for its appellation. Very mineral. It just lacks a little length.
