"I've tasted many vintages of Brunel's wines, and 2016 seems to be the best ever. The 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape stood out in my blind tasting, offering incredible complexity and lightness despite its roundness. Roses, garrigue and dried spices accent raspberry and cherry notes in a concentrated, intense yet lively wine with multiple nuances." (Wine Advocate - Joe Czerwinski)

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
André Brunel's wines always combine generosity, fine tannins and freshness. The white is very refined, with a high proportion of clairette. In the reds, Grenache dominates, with some Mourvèdre. Finally, the cuvée la-centenaire is made from very old Grenache vines planted on the Mont-Redon plateau. The 2014 is a classic expression of the style of wines from the plateau of large rounded pebbles of Mont-Redon. The 2015 cuvée centenaire is a great success, as is the 2016 white.

Roses, garrigue and dried spices accent raspberry and cherry notes in a concentrated, intense yet lively wine with multiple nuances. Composed of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% Cinsault, it will be aged for 18 months (mainly in concrete) before bottling. Let's hope it sounds just as good then.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 18/20 (Great wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
We like the style and rigor of this wine. The fruit is ripe, but contained by the wine's freshness. The juice is concentrated, stretching out on the palate. A firm 2016 without excess, to be forgotten in the cellar.
About the domain :
Little known in France, André Brunel is nevertheless one of the elite of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. His racy wines are characterized by minerality and refinement. The entire range is extremely consistent. The classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a quiet force, full of finesse and nuance. In the best years, the estate produces a small quantity of a magnificent cuvée from vines planted in 1889 on the Farguerol plateau, called Cuvée Centenaire, which was launched in 1989. It enjoyed rapid, well-deserved worldwide success. André Brunel still owns a few rare and magnificent old bottles, from 1947 and 1967 or, more recently, from 1978, which show an undeniable savoir-faire that is reflected in the quality of today's wines.

About the wine:
Notes of blackcurrant liqueur and raspberry jam mingle with dried sage, earth and bramble in this fruity yet substantial and complex wine. The palate is round and soft, lingering with silky grip and persistent tannins. Soft enough to enjoy now, it will improve through 2028 and beyond.
