"A singing Viognier!"

"Born on a steep muscovite-granite hillside in the Chanson area, bordering the eponymous stream, this Condrieu shimmers with golden brilliance. The name is as inspiring as the luscious scents of lily of the valley, orchard fruit, vanilla and brioche. Lively on the attack, impeccably fresh and highly perfumed, the palate shows depth and elegance, served by a long aniseed finish reminiscent of wild fennel. A high-flying bottle, both alert and sophisticated". (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

In just a few vintages, Stéphane Montez has established himself as a benchmark winemaker in the northern sector of the valley, in the Saint-Joseph, Condrieu and Côte Rôtie appellations. Ripe grapes, sometimes a little too ripe, produce wines with great power and intensity on the palate. Unfortunately, the estate did not present its wines at our tastings this year.

About the domain :

The estate's origins date back to the 16th century, and the Montez family has been cultivating vines since 1741. Stéphane Montez, who took over from his father Antoine in 1999, represents the ninth generation of winegrowers. Today, he manages a 40-hectare vineyard in organic conversion (cornas, côte-rôtie, condrieu, saint-joseph and IGP), established on the heights of Chavanay at 320 m altitude. A sure bet in the northern valley

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

Since 1997, Stéphane Montez has been cultivating a vineyard planted on beautiful slopes less than 2 kilometers from his winery. This rare unit produces 40% white wines. For reds, the estate owns a superb parcel of old Syrahs in Saint-Joseph, which produces a generous, gourmet Cuvée du Papy. The côte-rôtie wines are increasingly well mastered, based on maturing techniques that have become more refined.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

A lively, dense and energetic Viognier, with aromas of apricot, peach skin and a touch of floral honey. Medium- to full-bodied, with a concentrated core of cooked lemon. Textured and intense, with a caressing feel and a long, seductive finish. Enjoy or keep.
