"The estate's pride and joy for its depth and character"
“A pure Syrah, the 2022 Côte Rôtie Maison Rouge offers a reserved, relatively youthful, and dense bouquet, blending gentian, spices, licorice, and wild black berries, enhanced by delicate floral notes. Medium- to full-bodied, dense, and complex, it is perfectly balanced, with structured, velvety tannins, beautiful depth at its core, and a long, linear, and airy finish that delivers a pure and penetrating conclusion. Made from vines planted on gneiss soils in the Maison Rouge vineyard, which imparts a more full-bodied character compared to La Germine, it was fermented with 20% whole clusters and aged for 20 months in a combination of barrels and large tanks. “This remarkable wine should age gracefully over the next 10 to 20 years.” (Wine Advocate 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
The two brothers, Benjamin and David Duclaux, cultivate their small vineyard in the southern part of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, where gneiss (and even granite near the border with Condrieu) replaces schist in the geological composition of the subsoil. Their wines offer more pronounced aromas of red fruit than in other sectors, but the concentration of the two flagship wines (Maison Rouge and Coteaux de Tupin) shines in great vintages. The work in the barrel is more refined than in the past, though there is still room for improvement in this regard, particularly in the selection of barrels.

About the estate:
On their 6-hectare estate, founded by their great-grandfather in 1928, the Duclaux brothers focused exclusively on the Côte-Rôtie appellation (two vintages, La Germine and Maison Rouge). Since 2014, they have also been producing Condrieu. Their vineyard is located in the southern part of the appellation, on gneiss soil, on the steep slopes of Tupin-et-Semons.

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
The elegant Maison Rouge is built to stand the test of time, though it’s already hard to resist its charm and freshness. A wine that is both lively and well-balanced.
About the estate:
The Duclaux estate, founded in 1928, is today one of Côte-Rôtie’s most reliable names, producing precise, finely crafted wines without any artificial aging techniques. David and Benjamin are forging their path with consistency and flair. They produced their first Condrieu in 2014, named Les Caillets, in homage to their great-grandfather, Frédéric Caillet, the estate’s founder. The lineup is highly recommended; the wines age beautifully.

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Wine Spectator)
About the wine:
A rich, ripe wine with an alluring core of cherry jam and spiced cake, complemented by notes of licorice root and smoky graphite. Full-bodied and expansive, this wine nevertheless retains a lively freshness thanks to its refreshing minerality and invigorating acidity. It is mouthwatering from start to finish, with tannins that retain their full structure.

About the wine:
Produced from a more granitic terroir located in the southern part of the appellation, the 2022 Côte Rôtie Maison-Rouge, with deeper ruby and plum hues, offers a strikingly pure, complex style, medium-bodied to full-bodied, blending generous aromas of red, blue, and black fruits with floral, game, and mint notes. 100% Syrah, aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak barrels, it features fine yet powerful tannins and a lovely length on the palate. Best enjoyed within the next 10 to 15 years. To be savored between 2025 and 2040.
