"A true ode to Syrah from the steepest slopes of the Fongeant hillside"
“The first La Reynarde 2022 Côte-Rôtie reveals intense aromas of espresso, blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, crushed violet, graphite, and cedar. Medium-bodied and concentrated, it offers a perfect balance between intense flavors and matching freshness. Structured and round, La Reynarde is a wonderful addition to what is now known as the “La-La-La-La family.” Speaking of family, this new wine pays homage to Philippe Guigal’s two sons, Étienne and Charles, both born in 2010—the very year permission was granted to plant and build the new vineyard. ” (Vinous 2023). • Delivered in a single wooden case for all orders of this wine (excluding the “Point Relais” delivery method)

Rated (2023 Guide) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the estate:
Marcel and Philippe Guigal jointly run the successful family business, which since 2017 has expanded significantly in the south, to Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares of estate-owned vineyards), supplemented in the spring of 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d’Aquéria. And, as always, the rich portfolio of vineyards in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage. Wine lovers can enjoy some of the valley’s greatest vintages, not to mention the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône in all three red, white, and rosé varieties, and Tavel, Philippe’s favorite wine.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100
About the wine:
A very floral profile, with notes of rose and potpourri. Soft and juicy, easy to drink, with fairly pronounced tannins, but without excessive power or robustness. Slightly more fluid than Guigal’s other Côte-Rôties, it is not as concentrated as La Turque but more so than La Mouline. A fresh and fairly natural expression, with low acidity but nonetheless very good. It has aged well so far, and will continue to age for 40 months in new oak barrels, like the other La Las wines. The 1.5-hectare vineyard, located in the Fongeant cru, was planted over four years, with the first planting dating back to 2019. All grapes are harvested in whole clusters, like La Landonne, but the winemaking process is more traditional, with manual punch-downs. A promising first vintage.

About the estate:
In addition to its “treasures” in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Condrieu, the Guigal estate owns two fine vineyards in Saint-Joseph: the locality known as “Saint-Joseph,” which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l’Hospice, planted on a very steep granite hillside—a site already identified by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon—with a geological formation similar to that of the famous Bessards hill in Hermitage.

About the estate:
An iconic figure of the Northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a prominent winegrower. In this latter capacity, he cultivates famous vineyards in Côte Rôtie, such as La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, an oenologist representing the third generation, continues the family legacy alongside his father, maintaining this dual focus on estate-owned vineyards and wine trading. The winemaking for the northern appellations all takes place in Ampuis.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
The most iconic winery in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this label, we bring together wines from our own vineyards, which we thus distinguish from our wine merchant activities. This includes the famous Côte-Rôtie trio: La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne; the first two are brand names, while the last is a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d’Ampuis cuvée, as well as the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star wines, there is the Vignes de l’Hospice cuvée, a Saint-Joseph situated on a magnificent terroir, as well as several large plots in Hermitage from which the Ex-Voto cuvée is produced. Marcel Guigal is strongly supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently shifting the style of the wines, with aging that strikes us as slightly less dominant. Needless to say, all these wines are built for long-term aging.

About the wine:
This wine is very different from the other La La's. The nose is ripe, yet crisp, fresh, and very spicy. On the palate, it offers savory notes, with peppery, complex, and refined tannins. The oak nicely complements the wine’s savory character. A captivating freshness is followed by a good concentration of fruit and waxy rosehip. There’s beautiful precision here as well.

About the wine:
The first vintage of this cuvée, the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Reynarde comes from the Fongeant vineyard, located just above the Côte Brune. The grapes are not destemmed, and the wine was vinified solely through pigeage (similar to La Turque) and undergoes the same 4-year aging in new barrels as the other single-vintage cuvées. Aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, smoked meat, crushed stone, and graphite characterize the nose, with notes of black olives and iron emerging upon aeration. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a beautiful texture and ripe, polished tannins. This wine clearly deserves its place in the lineup and is well on its way to becoming a brilliant, structured, and age-worthy Côte Rôtie.
