"A true ode to Syrah on the steepest slopes of the Fongeant hillside."

The first Côte-Rôtie La Reynarde 2022 reveals intense aromas of espresso, blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, crushed violet, graphite, and cedar. Medium-bodied and concentrated, it offers a perfect balance between high flavor concentration and matching freshness. Structured and round, La Reynarde is a wonderful addition to what is now known as the "La-La-La-La family." Speaking of family, this new wine is a tribute to Philippe Guigal's two sons, Étienne and Charles, both born in 2010, the same year that permission was granted to plant and build the new vineyard. (Vinous 2023). • Delivery in a single wooden case for all orders of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About the estate:

Marcel and Philippe Guigal jointly run the successful family business, which since 2017 has expanded significantly in the south, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares of land), supplemented in spring 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d'Aquéria. And still the rich parcels in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage. Wine lovers can taste some of the greatest vintages in the valley, not to mention the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône, in all three colors, and Tavel, Philippe's favorite wine.

Decanter

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100

About wine:

A very floral expression, with notes of rose and potpourri. Soft and juicy, easy to drink, with fairly present tannins, but without excessive power or robustness. A little more fluid than Guigal's other Côte-Rôties, it is not as concentrated as La Turque but more so than La Mouline. A fresh and fairly natural expression, low in acidity but nevertheless very good. It has aged well so far, and will continue to do so for 40 months in new oak barrels, like the other La Las wines. The 1.5-hectare site located in the Fongeant locality was planted over four years, with the first planting dating back to 2019. Everything is harvested in whole clusters like La Landonne, but the extraction is more traditional, with manual punching down. A promising first vintage.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

In addition to its "treasures" in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Condrieu, Guigal owns two beautiful plots in Saint-Joseph: the "Saint-Joseph" locality, which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l'Hospice, planted on a very steep granite hillside, already identified by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon and with a geological formation similar to the famous Bessards hill in Hermitage.

5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)

About the estate:

An iconic figure in the northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a large landowner. In the latter capacity, he cultivates famous Côte Rôtie vineyards such as La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, an oenologist representing the third generation, continues the work alongside his father, still maintaining this duality of property and trade. The vinification of the northern appellations all takes place in Ampuis.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

The most iconic winery in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this entity, we bring together wines from our own vineyards, which we separate from our wine trading activities. This includes the famous trio from Côte-Rôtie: La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, the first two being brands and the last a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d'Ampuis cuvée and the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star wines, there is the Vignes de l'Hospice cuvée, a Saint-Joseph located on a magnificent terroir, as well as a few large plots in Hermitage from which the Ex-Voto cuvée is produced. Marcel Guigal is ably supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently changing the style of the wines, with a slightly less dominant approach to aging. Needless to say, all these wines are made for long-term aging.

About wine:

This one is very different from the other La La's. A ripe nose, but also crisp, fresh, and very spicy. The palate has a savory note, with peppery, complex, and fine tannins. The oak nicely complements the wine's savory character. A captivating freshness is followed by a good concentration of fruit and waxy rose hips. Beautiful precision here too.

About wine:

The first vintage of this cuvée, Côte Rôtie La Reynarde 2022 comes from the Fongeant vineyard, located just above Côte Brune. It is not destemmed and was vinified solely by pigeage (similar to La Turque) and benefits from the same four years of aging in new barrels as the other single-vintage cuvées. Aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, smoked meat, crushed stone, and graphite characterize the nose, with notes of black olives and iron appearing on aeration. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a beautiful texture and ripe, polished tannins. This wine clearly deserves its place in the range and is on its way to becoming a brilliant, structured Côte Rôtie with great aging potential.
