Coteaux Pont du Gard
L'IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard' was established in 2010 with the aim of uniting producers around a shared identity. Not only has the IGP embraced the Rhône Valley’s wine-growing culture, but it has also expanded the geographical area to include five neighboring regional wines.
The Coteaux du Pont du Gard wine region is located in Languedoc, in the Occitanie region of southern France. It stretches from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Ardèche and forms a link between Languedoc and Provence.
This appellation reflects significant production potential as well as an exceptional heritage. The Pont du Gard, from which the vineyard takes its name, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Water is also a defining element of the Coteaux du Pont du Gard, particularly in Vergèze, where it influences the wine-growing regions and shapes the aromatic profile and balance of the grapes. The soils are diverse, ranging from coarse-grained yellow limestone—known as “Pont du Gard stones”—to the white limestone of the garrigue plateaus and the blond limestone of Uzès; finally, along the Rhône, the soils consist of pebbles.A dry, harsh, and sunny Mediterranean climate produces powerful, complex wines that are nonetheless elegant. However, this climate is dominated by the powerful mistral wind and alternates with episodes of sea breeze responsible for the violent autumn rains.
The excellent conditions for ripening and the adaptability of the grape varieties result in wines with a Mediterranean character. The red wines are full-bodied and warm, with fruity aromas. The refined and elegant white and rosé wines are full-bodied and fruity, and are generally made to be enjoyed young.
