Domaine Saint-Pierre - Côtes-du-Rhône rouge 2021
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“A deep black color rimmed with a bluish hue sets the stage for a captivating bouquet of stewed blueberries and pencil lead, blended with a very elegant milky note. Tasters then highlighted the wine’s roundness and generous power, with a palate bursting with ripe fruit resting on a bed of velvety tannins. A great success, all the more so in a vintage like 2021, where patience was required to achieve perfect ripeness in the grapes.” (Le Guide Hachette 2023)

About the estate:

A good entry-level Côtes du Rhône.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 02/08/2023
An unpretentious wine for casual drinking, lacking any real character. It has a full-bodied palate, with a solid structure and a dense texture, featuring black fruits that lack vibrancy (blackcurrant in particular) and spices. The smooth finish is in keeping with this, though the tannins still need to mellow. The “exceptional” character touted by Hachette may lie in its price. For my part, the Vacqueyras from the same estate strikes me as more refined and more polished. In “bistronomy” mode, this little gem is best sipped with friends alongside a homemade chicken kebab, for example. Rating = 3.3.
