"A sensational Côtes du Rhône better than most Châteauneuf du Pape of the vintage (Jeb Dunnuck)"

"Made from century-old Grenache vines (with 10% Syrah and Mourvèdre in the blend) located mainly in the northern part of the Southern Rhône, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Villages Arcane le Soleil spent 15 months in one-third new barrels, concrete tanks and stainless steel vats. This inky beauty offers a formidable perfume of blueberry, scorched earth, graphite and crushed violets. Deep, full-bodied, incredibly pure and elegant, with silky tannins, this is a sensational Côtes du Rhône better than most Châteauneuf du Pape of the vintage." (Jeb Dunnuck 2018)

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2015 Côtes du Rhône Villages Arcane Le Soleil has a dark, fruity color, but also soft, silky tannins. It's full-bodied, but not excessive, and sensationally seductive on the palate. Black cherries define the fruit, to which are added notes of dark chocolate and enough garrigue to give it a savory character despite the fruit. This is an old-vine blend of 80% Grenache and 10% Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged for 15 months in one-third new oak, the rest in concrete vats or foudres. Perhaps the best Côte du Rhône Villages I've ever tasted, it seems to have the stuffing to last another 10 years.

About the wine:

This is a highly structured, concentrated style, with intense, fresh aromas of red fruit and cherry, expressed in a concentrated, fresh and energetic style. An impressive wine. To enjoy or to keep.

As always, a full, charming wine. Straightforwardness is the guiding principle of this oenologist, who always offers simple, clean and seductive wines, but I sometimes miss a touch of fun!

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 29/10/2024

This illustrious cuvée "Le Soleil", eminently seductive both for its aesthetic presentation and the refinement of its juice, needs no introduction. Everything has already been said about the intrinsic qualities of this wine. In Ausso, I would only add that the sun is shining a little less brightly than in the past, and that it is apparently on the wane. To be decanted for at least 1 hour before a royal attack on a lamb tajine with prunes. Score = 4.

Good fruit and richness but lacking vibrant acidity. This is one-dimensional wine worthy of no better than a score of 90.
