"Intensity and complexity in your glass!"

"Domaine Raspail-Ay's Gigondas 2022 exudes a deep, complex bouquet of ripe cherries, flowers, dark wild berries and peonies mingled with soft woody notes. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it has a fleshy core of fruit framed by structured tannins and a long, delicately peppery finish. This exceptional, highly mineral Gigondas is composed of 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre". (Wine Advocate 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

4-star rated estates (top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Dominique Ay is Gigondas' old sage in the noblest sense of the word. The illustrious president of the appellation for many years, he is one of the leading figures of the Southern Rhône. Knowing Grenache inside out, he makes the clay-limestone soils of the Parties terroir speak for themselves. Aging then takes on its full meaning, as the wines are matured in large-capacity tuns for a minimum of 24 months. The torch has now been passed on to his children, with Anne-Sophie in charge of sales and Christophe in charge of the winery and vineyards - no less! In a timeless style, the estate's only wine is renowned for its longevity. Very powerful and structured, even firm in its youth, it develops a silky texture and perfect balance. The 2016, tasted in vats, should produce a great bottle...

About the wine:

Domaine Raspail-Ay's Gigondas 2022 exudes a deep, complex bouquet of ripe cherries, flowers, dark wild berries and peonies mingled with gentle woody notes. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it has a fleshy core of fruit framed by structured tannins and a long, delicately peppery finish. This exceptional, highly mineral Gigondas is composed of 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The Grenache and Mourvèdre were aged in foudres, while the Syrah was matured in used and large barrels.

Domaine noté (guide 2024) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

The estate's wine represents the archetype of good Gigondas, full-bodied, vigorous and unostentatious. Firm and tightly-knit, the best vintages require four to five years of cellaring to open up fully. From then on, they gain in complexity over time and improve over ten to twenty years.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 16,5/20

About the wine:

Very dense nose - ripe red fruit, blackberry and licorice. The palate is ripe and round, with sweet black fruits, firm tannins, concentrated acidity and a herbaceous touch. Tasty and smooth at the same time!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91-93/100

About the wine:

The Gigondas 2022 reminds me slightly of the 1990. It has a perfumed profile, elegant and ripe at the same time, with lots of aromas and flavors of sweet red fruits, sappy garrigue and sandalwood, as well as floral nuances that reveal themselves with time in the glass. Medium-bodied and well-balanced, both rich and elegant, it should benefit from a few years' bottle ageing and can be enjoyed for over 15 years.
