"Deep and rich, the 2010 Gigondas, with its dense ruby/purple color, reveals notable mineral aromas intertwined with notes of spring flowers, blackberries, and Kirsch. With a full-bodied palate and moderate tannins, it will need 2 to 3 years of cellaring. Drink over 15 to 20 years. (Wine Advocate Oct. 2011 - Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

4-star estate (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Dominique Ay is the wise elder of Gigondas in the noblest sense of the word. An illustrious president of the appellation for many years, he is one of the leading figures of the southern Rhône. With his in-depth knowledge of Grenache, he brings out the best in the clay-limestone soils of the Parties terroir. The aging process then takes on its full meaning, as the wines are refined in large casks for a minimum of 24 months. His children have now taken up the torch, with Anne-Sophie in charge of sales and Christophe in charge of the winery and vineyard, no less! With its timeless style, the estate's only wine is known for its longevity. Very powerful and structured, even firm in its youth, it develops a silky texture and perfect balance. The 2016 vintage tasted from the vat should produce a very fine bottle...

Rated estate (2024 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

The estate's wine is the archetype of a good Gigondas: full-bodied, vigorous, and unpretentious. Firm and tightly structured, the best vintages require four to five years of aging to fully open up. From then on, they develop beautiful complexity over time and improve over ten to twenty years.

Exceptional. Very expressive nose, dense texture with a length worthy of a great Châteauneuf-du-Pape. I'm still going to keep it for another three or four years before opening the next one...

A pleasant wine, quite elegant but still young. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Another success for the Raspail-Ay estate, which offers a very good Gigondas in a vintage that was more difficult than 2009 and 2011. It is still elegant and never heavy, with good aging potential and excellent value for money.

Already very good, but should reach its peak maturity in a few years. We'll wisely forget about it until then.

Young, very young, 3 stars out of 5 at present, but it promises many years of enjoyment and should reach a very good level within a few years. Patience is required, but the potential is great.

A powerful, balanced wine with a very "round" mouthfeel. This wine was enjoyed by friends while eating a Toulouse cassoulet... To be repeated...
