Guigal
Guigal, the undisputed leader among the great wines of the Rhône, was founded in Ampuis in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, who spent the early part of his career helping to develop the Vidal-Fleury winery. His son, Marcel Guigal, joined him in 1961. His hard work and perseverance enabled the winery to Guigal to acquire Vidal-Fleury in its entirety in 1984, although the company retained its own identity and commercial autonomy.
Philippe Guigal, oenologist, is the third generation to continue the family business dedicated to the great wines of the Rhône. The Guigal family works together to develop this prestigious Rhône winery. From generation to generation, rigorous selection and excellence in winemaking have enabled the winery to Guigal wines to present each year genuine references in the prestigious appellations of the Rhône Valley: Côte-RôtieCondrieu, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Gigondas, Crozes-Hermitage, Tavel, Côtes-du-Rhône... The Guigal wines should be part of your ideal wine cellar!
Guigal, a major estate in the Rhône Valley
At the head of several hectares of vineyards in prestigious appellations such as Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, or Saint JosephGuigal has earned its reputation primarily through its famous wines from Côte-RotieAlthough the estate was founded by Marcel Guigal, it was when his son took over at the age of 17, following his sudden death, that the estate expanded and has continued to produce exceptional wines ever since. The style of Guigal's fine wines is recognizable by a characteristic woody taste that defines its finest vintages. Guigal is known for aging its wines for a relatively long period of two years. This aging in barrels and then in casks produces velvety, mellow wines, but some vintages may have a more or less pronounced woody taste.Fine wines with character
The terroirs of the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, located on steep slopes, are rich in schist and iron oxide. Combined with exceptional sunshine, these vines produce some of the Côte Rotie Guigal wines such as "La Turque" or "La Mouline." Made exclusively from Syrah or Viognier grapes, wines from the Guigal vineyard are very dark and rich in tannins. The Ampuis Castle, Guigal's flagship wine, is produced from historic vineyards. The estate is listed as a historic monument and is known for having hosted many kings and queens of France. Ampuis is the birthplace of Côte-Rôtie wines, and it is here that exceptional vintages such as Château d'Ampuis 2015 which truly marks this trend in the vineyard to move away from aging in favor of terroir. It is a powerful, full-bodied wine with a rare complexity that has earned the estate its reputation for the quality of its Côte-Rôtie wines. Château d'Ampuis is available in several terroir versions: Le Clos, La Garde, La Grande Plantée, La Pommière, Le Pavillon Rouge, Le Mouin and La Viria, all wines of great finesse and exceptional purity.Wines for aging
Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2016 offers a highly expressive nose with aromas of red and black fruits such as blackberry and raspberry, and hints of sweet spices like vanilla. This is a delicate wine that simply needs to age quietly for several years to reveal its full potential.More information on the website of Guigal
