"Power and subtlety for this racy red Lirage!

"Lovely nose with clear notes of herbs and sap with fresh red fruit underneath. Smoky, ashy herbal notes come through on the palate and balance well with sweet redcurrant and cherry fruit. A good sensation of freshness and a striking, structured finish. Impressive." (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

In 1919, Jean Olivier acquired the former estate of the Counts of Aqueria, commissioned by an 18th-century château and adorned with a French-style park. His son-in-law Paul de Bez completely restructured the vineyard: today, 64 ha in a single block, managed since 1984 by his grandsons Vincent and Bruno, now joined by Raphaël, the fourth generation. A sure bet for lirac and tavel.

Estate rated 3*Stars (very good production)

About the domain :

Château d'Aqueria dates back to the 16th century. In 1920, it was acquired by Jean Olivier, who gave it its letters of nobility. Today, Vincent and Bruno de Bez look after the land of their childhood - no less than 66 hectares. Apart from Tavel, a renowned gourmet rosé, the rest of the production in the Lirac appellation (both red and white) is often interesting.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 18/05/2025

A few roasted and bitter chocolate notes left by the oak ageing process are found in the fleshy texture of this Lirac, which is also bursting with stewed red fruit and enhanced by a touch of pepper. The massive, powerful structure is balanced by beautiful, consistent tannins that are still firm but not harsh, and by a dynamic freshness that lingers on the remarkable finish. A good year's careful patience will enable you to discover this wine in the company of a royal couscous or fine pieces of grilled beef in summer, and a sauté of veal marengo or a jugged hare in winter. Score = 4.
