Grand Nicolet Estate
Originally a family of grain and olive farmers with just one hectare of vineyards, it was Joseph who sparked the family’s interest in wine Nicolet by expanding the vineyard by 2 hectares between 1912 and 1919. A passionate winemaker, he founded the winery “ Nicolet "in 1926 after graduating with honors. Over the generations and through various mergers, the vineyard has expanded and now covers 31 hectares, which are managed by Jérôme Bertrand."
The vineyard comprises 3.5 hectares in the town of Sablet and 27.5 hectares in the town of Rasteau: The terroir in Sablet features sandy-limestone soil, which produces rich, fruity wines. The terroir of Rasteau consists of clay-limestone soil, composed of red and yellow clays with veins of blue marl, which produces complex, powerful wines with good aging potential.
  • The grape varieties grown here are exclusively red varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. The average age of the vineyard is 45 years, with some Grenache vines over 80 years old.
  • Wines produced: Table Wine, Côtes du Rhône, AOC Rasteau - Rasteau Natural Sweet Wines. The grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously sorted. We perform destemming, pumping over, racking, and punching down depending on the type of wine we wish to produce. We monitor fermentation temperatures daily. The vatting period lasts 20 to 35 days. For aging, depending on our cuvées, we use amphorae, concrete tanks, or barrels.
