Domaine Martin - Rasteau 2023

The 12 months of aging in large oak casks have added a hint of cinnamon to this inviting and distinctly characteristic nose of candied plum, stewed fruit, and licorice. Generous on the palate, it unfolds with a full-bodied, fleshy texture, framed by substantial, chalky tannins. The warm finish, tinged with black pepper and cocoa, leaves a lasting impression of a sunny, richly indulgent Rasteau, perfectly true to the appellation’s style.

Brothers David and Éric Martin have been based at the family estate since 2005; the estate was founded in 1905 on 5 hectares in Plan de Dieu. Today, they cultivate 80 hectares of vineyards.

This wine hints at something wild and magnificent just beneath the surface. Aromas of violet and rose petals blossom over a dense core of crushed blackberry, white pepper, and a hint of sea salt. The palate is elegant and lively, revealing notes of pure black plum supported by crisp acidity and round, striking tannins. There is a contained energy here that promises to unfold over time. Decant it now to explore its tension, or cell it until 2030 and beyond.

A rich and full-bodied Rasteau with aromas of ripe berries, spiced cherries, and dried spices with warm notes. A full-bodied wine with velvety tannins. Well-structured, with concentrated notes of fruit and spices that lead to a firm finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2027.

The 2023 Rasteau reveals superb aromas of red and black fruits, ground pepper, strawberry, black cherry, toasted garrigue, and peppery, full-bodied notes. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, round, deep, and nicely concentrated, it embodies the fresh and concentrated style of the vintage. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, aged for six months in old oak casks, it will age well for 10 to 12 years.
