"This Collioure showcases all of Élise Gaillard’s expertise; she has earned numerous accolades for her wines and has secured a Favorite this white, crafted from a blend of Grenache Gris (60%), Vermentino, and Roussanne. Each grape variety plays its part. The Vermentino brings freshness, while the other two varieties add richness to this golden-hued wine, which boasts an intense and complex nose: honey cake, broom, orange blossom, candied citrus, with a toasty note from the barrel. The palate follows suit, lively and briny, while offering plenty of body and roundness (a gift from the Grenache), with lovely notes of honey, gingerbread, and candied orange. The oak is mellow and well-integrated. A full-bodied, generous wine of rare balance.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017)

Rated wine (2017 guide) 15.5/20 + Editor's Choice (Excellent wine)

Rated estate (2017 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the wine:

The nose is oily and herbaceous, with notes of rose, boxwood, and lemon. On the palate, honey and notes of grape stems clash; it’s mouthwatering and rich, calling for lobster.

About the estate:

In 2002, Pierre Gaillard took over this multifaceted 29-hectare estate and introduced revolutionary vineyard management methods for Banyuls, inspired by his work in Côte-Rôtie. The plots near the sea, exposed to sea breezes, bring a lot of freshness to the whites and rosés, while those located at the bottom of the valley, which are warmer, are better suited to the production of natural sweet wines. His daughter is now in charge of the estate.

The palate follows suit, lively and briny, while offering plenty of body and roundness (a legacy of the Grenache), with lovely notes of honey, gingerbread, and candied orange. The oak is mellow and well-integrated. A full-bodied, generous wine of rare balance.

About the estate:

Pierre Gaillard loves hillsides and schist soils. A well-known producer from Côte Rôtie, he turned his attention to Languedoc-Roussillon and became interested in Faugères, before purchasing Madeloc in Côte Vermeille in 2002. His daughter Élise, an agricultural engineer, manages the estate (approximately 18 hectares) and crafts the wines with great skill. On certain slopes, winch systems are used, as in the Rhône Valley.
