Domaine de l'Edre - Côtes du Roussillon Cuvée Prestige rouge 2019
91-93/100
Robert Parker
"A charming Côtes du Roussillon"
"A blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 10% Carignan, and 5% Mourvèdre, aged in second-fill barrels, the 2019 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel L'Edre has a slightly citron-like nose, but also hints of bay leaves, rose petals, and cherry-scented fruit. Medium-bodied, it is more structured and tannic than the estate's Carrement cuvée. (Wine Advocate 2021)

Winery rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, consistent with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Founded in Vingrau in 2002 by Jacques Castany and Pascal Dieumidou, this estate benefited from the expert advice of their neighbor Hervé Bizeul (Clos des Fées) from the outset. In 2004, its reputation took off thanks to Decanter magazine. However, even today, the two are still part-time winemakers, despite their 10 hectares of production. The cellar, housed in an old garage, remains simple but efficient. All of the vintages are very well made, making the estate a sure bet in Roussillon.

About the estate:
Jacques Castany worked in transportation and Pascal Dieunidou in IT. In 2002, they launched their wine-growing venture in a tiny cellar. It has been a success, as evidenced by their already impressive list of awards. The 10-hectare vineyard is located in Vingrau, facing a magnificent cirque dominated by limestone.

An iconic Roussillon cuvée from a sunny vintage. Prestige 2019 offers a sensual blend, with a harmonious opulence that delights the palate with its deliciously velvety texture and lovely length thanks to a slight tension, as well as its richness and aromatic intensity dominated by flavors of jammy black fruits, accompanied by subtle spices, a hint of cocoa and a touch of licorice. Long, intensely fragrant finish. Will benefit from cellaring to channel its exuberance. This refined and elegant wine will enhance game, such as a traditional hare stew, or a fine cut of red meat, ideally a beautiful Aubrac rib of beef with garrigue herbs cooked on the barbecue. Rating = 4.5.

One of the best wines in Roussillon; 2019 is currently at its peak, a new team is at the helm of the estate and I hope they will stay the course, as it is such a pleasure year after year.
