Domaine de Rancy
Founded in the 1920s, Domaine de Rancy produced a range of naturally sweet wines, dry reds, and rosés. When Marcel Verdaguer arrived in 1970, the estate reoriented its production, choosing to focus exclusively on the production of Rivesaltes. It was not until 2001 that the next generation decided to resume the production of dry red wines and withdrew from the cooperative winery to produce terroir-driven wines.
Domaine de Rancy is located in the Agly Valley, on a terroir known for its brown schist. The vineyard, certified organic since 2011, is planted with local grape varieties: Macabeu, white Grenache, and gray Grenache for the whites; Carignan, Mourvèdre, and black Grenache for the reds. These vines are 50 years old on average (except for the Mourvèdre), resulting in low yields.
The wines of Domaine de Rancy are classified under the Rivesaltes appellation for natural sweet wines, and under the IGP Côtes Catalanes and Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellations for dry wines and rancio wines.
