Notes: Hachette Guide 3*** (Exceptional Wine) + Editor’s Choice,Gold Medal in Paris
“This is Favorite fifth consecutive Favorite for this château, which, not content with being the appellation’s largest estate in terms of area (80 hectares in a single block), confirms its qualitative supremacy year after year. The concentration of this 2008 is evident from its deep garnet color. Beyond its power, it is the finesse and complexity of the nose that capture the attention: black fruits, violet, and vanilla blend together in perfect harmony. Equally impressive, the palate rests on an exceptional tannic structure with superb roundness. A light touch of oak highlights its great promise, which it will be able to fulfill even in its youth. ” (Guide Hachette des vins 2011) - Château de Gueyze is a great wine, produced by the flagship of the appellation, which will age beautifully for about ten years in the cellar!

About the estate:
The cooperative, which controls the bulk of the Buzet appellation—approximately 1,950 hectares to date, planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon, Sémillon, and others—had built a solid reputation in the 1990s. With a few more challenging vintages, quality had dipped, before returning to a high standard once again. This winery’s range is worth noting; the wines are monitored on a plot-by-plot basis and assert their specific identities, without resorting to showmanship.

Tasted in 2016; it still has plenty of aging potential. A quality wine.

Advertised on the website as a top-rated Buzet, the first bottle was quite disappointing. Patience?
