Buzet
In 1973, this Buzet appellation was recognized and, with the help of a few strong personalities, it was able to conquer a notoriety that had been lacking for many years due to the shadow cast by the enormous vineyards of the neighboring department. With similar grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for the red wines), the qualities of the Buzet wines are also very similar to those of Bordeaux wines. The vast majority of Buzet red (85%), white and rosé wine production is controlled by the cooperative grouping of the appellation's winegrowers, which includes no fewer than 27 communes.

Nearby, Europe's largest forest pleasantly tempers the oceanic climate. A climate and soils conducive to vine-growing, assets appreciated by Bacchus, have favored the planting and evolution of one of France's oldest vineyards. Today, the Buzet vineyard extends over 2,000 hectares in production, situated on 40 kilometers of hillsides.

The vintages offered by Gueyze Castle offer a perfect example of the nobility of the Buzet appellation.

Buzet, an old vineyard with character

Although the commune's main activity has been viticulture since the Middle Ages, Buzet wine has only recently really taken off. In fact, it was only after the creation of the Vignerons de Buzet in the 1950s that wine, and especially Buzet red has made a name for itself. Today, it is shipped all over the world. Visit Buzet wine was awarded the appellation d'origine contrôlée in 1973.

Located in GascogneLocated in the Lot-et-Garonne department, the vineyard covers an area of over 1,900 hectares.

A terroir deeply rooted in respect for nature

The growing methods used to produce Buzet wines are an integral part of the terroir. Every effort is made at every stage of production to preserve biodiversity. The AOC specifications call on winegrowers to control yields in the interests of quality. Thus, vine density is limited to 4,000 vines per hectare, and each vine must have its own surface area of 250 square centimetres. Some Buzet wines, such as Château de Gueyze Buzet, have made the well-being of the vines and respect for biodiversity their top priorities. On this estate, the vines benefit from the broadcasting of music, and the Gueyze vineyard is proud of the great biodiversity that grows alongside its wines.

The oceanic climate produces full-bodied, complex wines

With slightly more sunshine than the national average and less rainfall, particularly in late spring, the vineyards are ideally located. The slopes on which it is planted provide the mineral elements, rich in limestone and clay, that give it its distinctive character. Although the Buzet vineyard Although Buzet produces white wine, this production remains relatively small compared to the red wine, which accounts for over 95% of bottling. The grape varieties of Buzet red wine are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and, to a lesser extent, Côt and Malbec, which give Buzet wines their distinctive consistency.

Cuvées de garde recognized for their quality

Although the Buzet wine is not a nectar to be kept for many years in a cellar, some cuvées and vintages produce wines that can be kept for many years, comparable to some Bordeaux wines. Like the cuvée du vin de Buzet 2012 which is now reaching maturity. To reach its full potential, Buzet red wine should be served between 16 and 17 degrees, with poultry or red meat.
