"A sure bet at a great price!"

This wine could be used for WSET studies: what does (or should) a modern Cahors taste like? Spicy plums, a hint of black tea, a touch of matcha herbs, all deeply nestled in long, dark, velvety, fleshy tannins, drawn out gently like a drawstring. The acidity is at the heart of the wine, imbued with the maturity and intensity of the plum. This wine is exceptionally good because it combines modern accessibility with transparency of fruit and terroir, without losing its essential Cahors character. It is long, balanced, and enjoyable to drink. Well done, Château Lamartine team. (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

A classic property of the appellation, producing robust, tannic Cahors wines, at the expense of a certain austerity in the basic wines. The Expression cuvée, made from the best vines on the third terrace, is of exemplary consistency.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About wine:

A touch of Tannat (10%) complements the Malbec in this original cuvée, which opens with blackcurrant, violet, and above all spice, with mineral notes in the background. The aromas are prolonged by a very fresh, long, harmonious palate with fine, silky tannins.

About the estate:

According to legend, the branches of a hundred-year-old oak tree provided shelter for the romantic trysts of a beautiful woman named Martine. In 2016, Alain Gayraud handed over the reins to his children Lise and Benjamin, who brought with them a wealth of experience gained abroad, to run this estate with ancient origins (1883), located on the edge of the Lot region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares (in conversion to organic farming), facing south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

With the Cuvée Particulière, we delve into the flesh of Malbec, supported by a touch of Tannat for a spicy wine with a sculptural touch. We will have to wait for the fruit to settle and for the flowers not far away to burst into the bouquet.

About the estate:

The future of the Gayraud family estate is now in the hands of Alain's children, Benjamin and Lise. The new generation brings greater energy and modernity to the wines, which focus on fruitiness. We must applaud the progress made by this large 37.5-hectare estate which, aided by climate change, is making the most of its terroir located on the three terraces of the Lot.

About wine:

With its dense black fruit and rich tannins, this is a full-bodied, spicy wine. It has a powerful structure that has been developed through more than a year of aging in oak. The wine is concentrated and will be ready to drink from 2025 onwards.
