“The Gayraud family seems to have built a bridge between the worlds of Mendoza and Cahors with this cuvée, which is primarily made from Malbec—dark, jammy juice, lively tannins, a hint of Cahors in the bite of the bitterness and the lingering grip of the tannins, which are still a bit knotty but soften like modeling clay under the flood of fruit. And a hint of medicinal elderberry, just in case you thought it was too easy.” (Jancis Robinson 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
A classic estate in the appellation, producing robust, tannic Cahors wines, albeit at the cost of a certain austerity in the entry-level wines. The "Expression" cuvée, made from the finest vines on the third terrace, is of exemplary consistency.

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
According to legend, the branches of a centuries-old oak tree once provided a secluded spot for the romantic trysts of a beautiful woman named Martine. Since 2016, Alain Gayraud has handed the reins to his children, Lise and Benjamin—who bring extensive international experience to the table—to lead this historic estate (founded in 1883), located on the edge of the Lot region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares (in the process of converting to organic farming) and faces due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
The Malbec is perfectly balanced in the 2021 Cahors, shaped by the freshness of the vintage. Its incredible charm is just beginning to come into its own.
About the estate:
The future of the Gayraud family estate now lies in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain’s children. The new generation brings greater vitality and modernity to the wines, which focus on fruit. We must commend the progress made by this great 37.5-hectare estate, which, aided by climate change, is making the most of its terroir situated on the three terraces of the Lot.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)
About the wine:
This well-balanced blend from the fourth generation of the Gayraud family—featuring 10% Merlot to soften the 90% Malbec—offers aromas of spices and vanilla, along with rich, dark tannins. It is a robust wine with black fruit and a dry core that shows great aging potential. Best enjoyed starting in 2026.
