"A beautiful balance between sweetness and freshness"

"An outstanding 2016 from start to finish: a beautiful golden yellow color, an intense and complex nose of candied fruit, dried fruit, hazelnut, and vanilla; rich and smooth on the palate but never heavy, with a subtle freshness that supports it and brings length and dynamism. A delicious wine with great aging potential. " (Le Guide Hachette des Vins)

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

3-star rating (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

Beautiful energy with a chiseled reach.

About the estate:

Since 1981, Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have spared no effort in flying the flag for Montravel on this estate inherited from Jean-François's father. Today, it covers 52 hectares located on the hillsides and plateau of Vélines. The estate has not yet made the leap to organic farming but strives to do its best. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it over. The extensive and well-structured range allows them to offer wines suitable for all occasions. The new winery will enable them to take their vision even further, notably with the development of a few experimental vintages.

About wine:

If the estate has a long list of Favorites to its name, it is thanks to its red Montravel wines. Jean-François Deffarge proves here that he also has a mastery of sweet white wines. A stunning 2016 from start to finish: a beautiful golden yellow color; an intense and complex nose of candied fruit, dried fruit, hazelnut, and vanilla; a rich and smooth palate that is never heavy, with a subtle freshness that supports it and brings length and dynamism. A delicious wine with great aging potential.

About the estate:

A very old family property (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast estate is now one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist," who is now handing over the reins to his sons Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 hectares) covers two very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a high plateau of boulbène. In conversion to organic farming.

Not very interesting, either on the nose or on the palate. Value for money well below that of a Coteau de l'Aubance AOP in the style of Domaine de Montgilet offered by the website.
