“This vintage confirms the merits of Schieferberg, a high-altitude schist terroir, which earned the estate a ‘Coup de Coeur’ award last year for a sweet Riesling from the same vintage. This sweet wine makes an immediate impression: its intense, coppery-amber color hints at its concentration. Very open, the nose unfolds a captivatingly complex palette of dried and candied fruits (apricot, quince, fig, date) enhanced by notes of coffee and pepper. These candied aromas carry through to a full-bodied and rich palate of rare density, held together by a crisp acidity that underscores its long finish. The very epitome of a meditation wine. (Residual sugar: 169 g/l.)” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

About the wine:

This vintage confirms the strengths of Schieferberg, a high-altitude schist terroir, which earned the estate a "Coup de Coeur" award last year for a sweet Riesling from the same vintage. This sweet wine makes an immediate impression: its intense, coppery-amber color hints at its concentration. Very open, the nose unfolds a captivatingly complex palette of dried and candied fruits (apricot, quince, fig, date) enhanced by notes of coffee and pepper. These candied aromas carry through to a full-bodied and rich palate of rare density, held together by a crisp acidity that highlights its long finish. The very epitome of a meditation wine. (Residual sugar: 169 g/l.)

About the estate:

South of Barr, the village of Reichsfeld is nestled deep in the mountains, at the bottom of a steep-sided valley sheltered by the Ungersberg, the highest peak in the Bas-Rhin department: this is the home of Marie-Claire and Pierre Borès, who settled here in 1988. The couple cultivates their 10 hectares of vineyards on the steep slopes of the Schieferberg, one of Alsace’s rare schist terroirs.
