“The brilliant Schoenenbourg is radiant and serene: a sumptuous and moving wine (RVF)”

“The nose is understated, revealing subtle citrus notes. The palate is wonderfully round and captivates with notes of ripe white peach—juicy and tender, with red streaks—while its refreshing, soothing, and vibrant character acts like a lighthouse, a spotlight, a source of invigorating freshness. This wine has not yet revealed its full potential, but its purity already shines through. Give it time to blossom.” (Vinous 2026)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 97/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

With its notes of fresh mandarin, the brilliant Schoenenbourg is radiant and serene: a sumptuous and moving wine.

About the estate:

The perfectionist Jean-Christophe Bott is one of Alsace’s leading winemakers. He is dedicated to meticulous work both in the cellar and in the vineyard, which is cultivated using biodynamic methods. While it consisted of just 4 hectares when it was founded in 1953, the estate now owns 15 hectares, spread across seven municipalities. The wines here are full-bodied and smooth, with their richness well-balanced and without the slightest hint of heaviness—particularly in the Pinot Gris wines, which are definitely worth rediscovering. Each cuvée possesses both power and a long finish, two qualities that contribute to their fullness. To top it all off, the estate offers slightly aged vintages for sale and has recently begun renting out vacation cottages.

About the wine:

The 2021 Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru comes from marl soils enriched with gypsum. The nose is understated, hinting at subtle citrus notes. On the palate, it is wonderfully round and captivates with notes of ripe white peach—juicy and tender, with red streaks—while its refreshing, soothing, and vibrant character acts like a lighthouse, a spotlight, a source of invigorating freshness. This wine has not yet revealed its full potential, but its purity already shines through. Give it time to blossom. (Very dry)
