Bettane & Desseauve

This terroir produces a Pinot Gris white wine with a unique character: full-bodied and deep, with a nose of ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla; on the palate, it is very pure and slightly sweet, with a subtle salinity on the finish… A Grand Cru not to be missed!

Food and Wine Pairings

This is the perfect pairing for foie gras terrine, lobster in sauce, and risottos with morels or porcini mushrooms. It’s the wine that complements kidneys in sauce, pan-seared livers, and pasta with soy sauce. It pairs well with dishes that have bold flavors, grains, and root vegetable purées. Wine rated 16.5/20 (Benchmark wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Aromatically interesting (with notes of salted butter caramel), but the slightly sweet richness on the palate makes the tasting experience a bit tiring. It will take a very long time to reach its peak, but who will wait that long?

About the estate:

Céline and Isabelle Meyer manage the estate—long led by their father Jean—with courage and discipline. The biodynamic approach shines through in their wines, which are light and refined on the palate, fresh and well-defined. The estate’s two flagship grands crus are the Hengst and the Brand, where the Riesling truly shines. The Pinot Gris is part of a long tradition of dry wines—a style that, unfortunately, is not all that common in Alsace.
